Junior Bullfinch

This young male bullfinch is just starting to show a flush of red on his chest and a dark cap forming. He has the distinctive bill and shape. Sitting oblivious to the camera aimed at him, he was very happily filling his beak with the pyrocanthus berries. Bullfinch are usually shy birds, feeding on fruit, seeds and flower buds.
I am always happy to sit and watch these stunning birds, the male with his vibrant red plumage and the girls with a a subtle though stylish taupe colour.
